The 18th Congress of the European Society for Organ Transplantation-ESOT will be held from Sunday 24 to Wednesday 27 September 2017 at the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona-CCIB.

The CCIB is a unique space that came into being with the 2004 Forum of Cultures, with the goal of welcoming congresses, conventions, exhibitions and official events on the highest level from around the globe.
Its innovative features, unmistakable architecture, cutting-edge technology and sustainable event management, combined with its superb location facing the Mediterranean, make the CCIB an outstanding venue. The CCIB is located in Barcelona’s new seafront esplanade, Diagonal Mar, forming part of the hip new business and technological district named 22@. The CCIB maintains an on-going commitment with the environment.

  • ATM: Many banks and ATM machines are located nearby the CCIB, especially in Josep Pla street as well as in Diagonal Mar Shopping Centre, just in front of the venue.
  • Cloakroom: A cloakroom facility is located in the foyer of the corridor to the Auditorium, where delegates can deposit their luggage and coat. Note that you will need to show your badge and your ID document.
  • Internet: Free WiFi for browsing is provided through the entire building to all the delegates and exhibitors. Network: ESOT2017 Password: esotcongress
  • Disabled access: All the levels of the CCIB are accessible for disabled persons.


At the congress, a name badge will be provided on-site with your registration documents received by email: your e-ticket. Please help us to make this congress safe: no one will be allowed to enter the venue without the printed e-ticket. Participants are requested to wear their badge at all times inside the congress venue and at all social events organised within the context of the Congress. If your badge is lost, a new badge will be issued. The administration cost for a new badge is 5,00€. For security reasons admittance to the meeting is strictly restricted to participants only (of all kinds). All presenters must be registered to attend the Congress. We kindly ask you to leave your badge in the dedicated bins before finally leaving the congress.

Badge, Non-Prescriber participants
Spanish regulations prohibit the promotion of prescription-only medicines directed at non-prescribers. It is the responsibility of participants and pharmaceutical companies to adhere strictly to this code of practice. Black lanyards will be made available in the registration area for non-prescribers.



An exhibition of related products, services and technologies is being held concurrently with the congress. The exhibition will be located on the ground floor of the venue (Level P0) just behind the registration area.

Credit cards
National and foreign credit cards as well as MasterCard, American Express and Visa are accepted. Credit cards are also accepted by numerous hotels, restaurants, shops and petrol stations.

The standard voltage in Barcelona is 230V/50Hz. Plugs are continental style with two round pins.

Ecosystem bar
ECOSYSTEM by ESOT stands for a fully digitalized and paperless congress. Participants are invited to bring their tablet (or book it with the registration) to access the App where programme and abstracts are available. The Ecosystem Bar will be located in the exhibition area, ground floor at the venue (Level P0), where you will get further instruction of usage and will be able to pick up your iPad if booked with your registration.

ESOT Village and National Transplant Societies Square
ESOT is pleased to welcome you in this designated area, located in the Exhibition area, ground floor of the venue (Level P0). Here you can receive information on membership, grants and awards programme, education activities and meet our staff. Some national societies of transplantation will also be present in this area to exchange information with congress participants.

Insurance policy
The organisers cannot be responsible for medical, travel or personal claims. Participants are strongly advised to take out an insurance policy covering three areas: health and accident, loss of luggage and cancellation (travel and registration).

Enquiries regarding items lost or found can be made at the Registration desk located in the main entrance hall at the venue.

Refreshment breaks and lunch
Coffee breaks and lunch are included in the registration fee. They will be served on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the Exhibition area (level P0).

Shopping and business hours
Shopping hours are Monday to Saturday from 10.00 to 20.00h. Shops are closed on Sundays. Visitors from non-EU countries can ask for VAT refunds when purchasing goods. Monday 25 September is a bank holiday in Barcelona and shops will be closed.

Smoking policy
Smoking is prohibited in all areas of the venue.

VAT - Value Added Tax
VAT, Value Added Tax, and similar taxes are charged on most goods and services. VAT in Spain is currently 21%. VAT is included in all Congress fees. As a participant in the ESOT 2017 Congress you may have the possibility, under certain conditions, to recover the VAT paid on certain types of expenses incurred. This may apply to both non-European business travellers visiting Europe and to European business travellers to other EU countries. For further information, please contact Customs and Excise on departure at the airport.



ESOT 2017 Congress Networking Cocktail - Sunday 24 September (19.00 - 20.00h)
Join your colleagues and friends in this networking event to take place in the open air Terrace overlooking the sea and Banquet Hall of the venue, located on the second floor (Level P2) of the CCIB.

Rising Stars Networking Cocktail - Tuesday, 26 September (19.35 - 20.20h)
The YPT Committee invites you to join this Cocktail on Tuesday evening in the Rising Stars Lounge (Exhibition hall), ground floor (Level P0) at the congress venue.

ESOT Village and National Transplant Societies Square
Located in the P0 floor in the center of the Exhibit Area. Here you will learn more about ESOT activities and the benefits of becoming a Member. Most National Transplant Societies in Europe and some International will also display in this area. 



The Organizers have taken all security measures, as suitable for this event, to ensure a safe environment at the venue. Your collaboration is asked, please follow these recommendations: 
• Avoid, if possible, bringing suitcases or large bags into the congress venue.
• Wear your badge at all times while you are in the congress venue, but not outside of it.
• When you leave the congress for the last time, don’t throw your badge in a waste bin outside; discard it in a waste bin located inside the venue.

The organisers cannot assume responsibility for any change in the programme due to unforeseen or external circumstances.


All best endeavours will be made to present the programme as published. However, ESOT 2017 Congress and its agents reserve the right to alter or cancel, without prior notice, any arrangements, timetables, plans or other items relating directly or indirectly to the Congress, for any cause beyond its reasonable control.

ESOT 2017 Congress and its agents are not liable for any loss or inconvenience caused as a result of such cancellation. Delegates are advised to take out their own travel insurance and to extend their policy to cover personal possessions as the Congress does not cover individuals against cancellation of bookings or theft or damage to belongings. Tours run by third parties may be subject to cancellation should minimum numbers not be achieved.
